Government Hospitals Implement Full Ban on Prescription of ‘Branded’ Medicines; Cease Visits of Medical Representatives (MRs)
Srinagar, Jul 25 : The Medical Superintendent of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) has issued a strict directive to all government hospitals, mandating the prescription of only ‘Generic’ medicines and prohibiting the use of ‘branded’ medicines under any circumstances.
The circular, signed by Medical Superintendent Prof. Farooq Ahmad Jan and available to GNS, states that the decision has been conveyed by the Director General of Health Services, Government of India, and has received endorsement from the Director of SKIMS & Ex. Officio Secretary to the Government.
The circular emphasizes that all medications prescribed within Government Hospitals must be Generic Medicines exclusively, and the use of branded medicines is strictly prohibited. Additionally, the presence of Medical Representatives within the premises of Government Hospitals has been completely curtailed.
Furthermore, the circular states that any information about new product launches should only be communicated via email.
This directive aims to promote the use of generic medicines, which are more cost-effective and readily available, ensuring better access to quality healthcare for all patients. By curbing the use of branded medicines and limiting the influence of Medical Representatives, the government hospitals seek to enhance transparency and maintain the focus on providing essential and affordable healthcare services.
