Shopian, 07 July: The water supply Scheme in Durpora village, Shopian district, is nearing completion under the Jal Jeevan Mission. This initiative aims to provide clean water access to the residents who have been struggling with the lack of basic water facilities. With just a few final touches remaining, the project is set to transform the lives of over 300 households. This ambitious endeavor prioritizes the supply of safe and reliable drinking water to four rural villages, showcasing the government’s dedication to uplifting rural communities.

The Jal Jeevan Scheme has emerged as a lifeline for millions of rural households, addressing their water scarcity challenges. With the ambitious goal of providing individual household tap connections to all rural households by 2024, the scheme has already made a positive impact on various villages.

Local resident Junaid Hamid praised the efforts of the authorities involved and urged them to continue their dedicated work to ensure the timely completion of the project. He expressed his happiness about the potential of this project in alleviating the long-standing drinking water crisis in the area.

The villagers acknowledged that relying on a single tube well was insufficient to meet their drinking water needs. However, the upcoming water supply project brings hope for a permanent and efficient solution to the water scarcity problem.

Although the water supply has not yet commenced, the ongoing work on this determined project has instilled hope and excitement among the villagers. They are eagerly awaiting the day when they will have access to clean drinking water on a regular basis.

Arshid Ahmad, a resident of the area, expressed gratitude to the government and concerned departments for prioritizing their well-being. He mentioned that access to clean drinking water has been a constant struggle, but this scheme is expected to bring a significant change in their lives.

Officials from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department while speaking with Arising State explained  that the water supply scheme is a lift type system with its source in another village. It includes an overhead tank with a capacity of 0.30 lac gallons (30,000 gallons) of water. The proposed rate of supply is 55 liters per capita per day (LPCD), indicating the average amount of water supplied to each individual daily.

The scheme aims to serve a population of 4,770 people with a network of pipelines spanning approximately 10.30 kilometers across the area. PHE officials expressed confidence in the timely completion of the project, with the expectation that it will be fully functional by the end of December 2023.

Successful implementation of the scheme will significantly improve the well-being and quality of life for the residents in the area.
