GDC Sogam held debate competition on Social Media Impacts
Kupwara, 19 April; One-Day Debate Competition on ‘Impact of Social Media on the Moral Values among Youth’ was organized by Debates & Seminar Committee (D&SC) of Govt Degree College (GDC) Sogam Kupwara on Tuesday.
Prof. M. Shafi Lone (Principal, GDC Sogam) was the patron of the event. The program started with the recitation of the Quran by Mr Basith Ahmad Sheikh (2nd Sem) and Naats were recited by Ms Raziya Bashir (2nd Sem) and Prof. Ishfaq Hussain. This was followed by formal Welcome Address by the worthy Principal in which he laid emphasis on the judicious use of the social media and how it impacts one’s life, if not used sensibly.
The program was moderated by Prof. Sajad Ahmad, who also highlighted the context of the topic and objectives of the program. In total, Eleven (11) students delivered their speeches on the given topic in English and Urdu. They were judged by a 4-member jury which included Prof. Mehbooba Bano (Asso. Prof., Political Science), Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah (Asstt. Prof., Education), Prof. Ishfaq Hussain (all from host college) and Mr Syed Gowhar Iqbal Nazki (Govt. Girls Higher Secondary, Sogam).
In this competition, Ms Salma Jahangeer (2nd Sem), Mr Peer Jafar Akbar (5th Sem) and Mr Danish Fayaz Tantry (3rd Sem), were declared as first three toppers, respectively, by the jury members.
The Certificates of participation and Mementos were distributed among all the participants/ position holders, Jury members and Organizers. The toppers were also given a cash prize of Rs 1000/-, 700/- and 500/-, respectively.
Among the staff members, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Prof. Mehbooba Bano and Mr Amir Amanullah (Librarian) also spoke on the importance of the theme.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Prof. Mohd. Rafi (Asstt. Prof., Economics). Besides the participants, the event was attended by over 80 students, and dozens of faculty members.
