12 kanal Forest land retrieved in Jammu city Outskirts
JAMMU, MARCH 27: In a major crackdown, the Forest department today dismantled 17 pucca structures and retrieved 12 kanal prime forest land here in Comptt no. 65/ Bahu of Sidhra Ragoora Majeen demarcated forest area.
The eviction drive was carried out by Forest department and J&K police, in presence of Duty Magistrate and amidst heavy deployment of Police and Forest Protection Force personnel.
The evicted area is prime forest land on the outskirts of Jammu City, worth crores.
Conservator of Forest East Circle Jammu, B. Mohandass, led the anti-encroachment drive from front. He said the eviction was carried out after providing reasonable opportunity to encroachers for vacating the forest land and after following due procedure laid down under Indian Forest Act, 1927.
He further said that the Forest department has adopted a zero tolerance policy for the encroachment and today’s operation was the major step ahead.
