Water shortage irks Warpora Bijbehara, Residents protest

Residents forced to install  motor pumps on River Jehlum for drinking filthy water

Anantnag,20 Nov: The residents of Warpora Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district are up in arms against the Public Health Engineering department for failing to provide drinking water to the residents.

The protesting villagers raised slogans against the PHE department in Bijbehara, alleging dept of not paying heed to their problem .

Talking to Arising state villagers said that they are facing a lot of problems due to scarcity of drinking water in the area from the last several months. Despite repeated requests to the concerned authorities, nobody is bothered to look into the issue and no measures are being taken to end the hardships faced by the people.

”We are being forced to fetch the drinking water from  nearby river Jehlum. For ths we have installed  water pumps on river  bank ,posing a serious threat for getting infected from the water borne diseases.”

They requested higher ups to look into the matter and provide clean drinking water facility to the area immediately so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, Arising state tried to contact the Chief Engineer PHE, but he didn’t pick up our call.
