Volunteers Lead Anti-Cannabis Drive in Awantipora, Clear Canals with Own Resources
Awantipora, August 9: In a commendable show of civic responsibility and community spirit, a group of dedicated volunteers from the Awantipora area have taken it upon themselves to eradicate wild cannabis from the region. The initiative, which began earlier this season, has already seen the successful clearing of multiple canals, with the effort expected to continue until the end of August.
Armed with brush cutters and driven by a strong sense of duty, the volunteers — including Imtiyaz Ahmad, Manjeet Paul, Shazadul Islam, Arshid Bhat, Syed Mudasir, and others — have been working tirelessly, often at the expense of their own daily work commitments. Utilizing their own resources, including fuel and equipment, these individuals have showcased a powerful example of grassroots action against drug-related threats in their community.
Speaking to reporters, the volunteers expressed their firm commitment to seeing the campaign through to the end of the month.
The group also extended their gratitude to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Awantipora, and the Excise Department for their timely cooperation and support, which they described as vital to the success of the campaign.
