Violent protests erupt in Anantnag

Spontaneous shutdown was observed in Anantnag district after rumors of scrapping Article 370 spread over social networking sites. Eye witnesses said that the business establishments downed their shutters and the market wore a deserted look. Locals said that youth took to streets and clashed with forces against the attacks on people of Kashmiri origin outside the state following Pulwama attack. Shouting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the youth also displayed photographs of a local who was thrashed in Chandigarh yesterday by a mob.They said the police tried to pacify the protesters, but they didn’t relent, leading to clashes.. Meanwhile, forces in large number have  been deployed in the area including Lal chowk  area of the district.
