Srinagar, September 05 : The Union Home Ministry has dismissed former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s recent tweet about the curtailment of powers of the elected government as “misleading and speculative.” The Ministry clarified that there is no such proposal under consideration.

In a post on X, the Ministry stated, “Mr. @OmarAbdullah’s tweet is misleading and speculative in nature. There is not even an iota of truth, as there is absolutely no such proposal. The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act of 2019 passed by the Parliament of India provides for notifying the transaction of business rules, and the same was notified in the year 2020.”

The Ministry further added that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have shown their full support for the efforts of the Government of India in establishing a democratically elected government. “The citizens participated enthusiastically in the historic free and fair election process,” it said.

Omar Abdullah had earlier posted on X that the BJP had accepted defeat in J&K, suggesting that the Chief Secretary had been tasked with changing the transaction of business rules to curtail the powers of the Chief Minister and transfer them to the Lieutenant Governor. He claimed to have received this information from sources within the Secretariat and urged officers to resist any pressure to disempower the incoming elected government.
