Tral, 2 Jan: The residents of Khanagund village in Aripal tehsil of Tral sub-district assembled on Saturday & staged a protest against the prevailing power crisis in the area.

A silent protest was staged near Umar colony of Khanagund village, on Aripal-Satoora road, in which the dismayed locals demanded installation of the electric transformer.

The aggrieved residents lamented that the new colony of Khanagund is being provided power supply from other transformers, due to which the area reels under darkness.

They said that electric poles were given earlier, and were accordingly installed as well, but the transformer is yet to be sanctioned, due to which locals suffer.

“We have been facing a power crisis for several years. After hectic efforts, our pleas were taken into the consideration, following which poles were installed. However, despite back to back requests transformer wasn’t’ given to us, thereby giving tough time to the whole colony,” one of the locals, Nazir Ahmad, said.

He said that they don’t get sufficient electricity from other transformers, as a result,  they face hardships particularly in winters.

The residents demanded immediate intervention of DC Pulwama and ADC Tral into the matter.

Meanwhile, ADC Tral, S.A. Raina said that he has taken note of the grievance and assured that the transformer shall be given to the Umar Colony residents of Khanagund Aripal, by the end of January month.
