Students from at least 07 villages staged a protest demonstration on Saturday at Ringat village of Damhal Hanjipora in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district demanding bridge over the river.Eyewitnesses said that students while blocking the roads, the protesting students, including girls, raised slogans against the administration and demanded the construction of a bridge over the Vishu Nallah.“The only wish of the people in the area is better road communication – a bridge over the Vishu Nallah  – as it will end one of their major problems. It becomes extremely difficult for the people to cross the stream, which swells up during the rainy season,” said Suhail Sheikh, a 10th class student. To minimize hardships, villagers have constructed a makeshift bridge over the river. “During the rainy season the makeshift bridge becomes slippery and it becomes risky to cross the bridge especially for women and children,” said another student Aasif Irshad.Executive Engineer R&B Division Kulgam, Mohammed Sidiq said that the department had already forwarded its proposal to the government for the construction of the bridge but they have yet to release funds for the same. I will again forward reminder letter to our higher officials so that they will release funds.”
