Strict curfew imposed in Srinagar ahead of first anniversary of revocation of Article 370

Authorities in Srinagar on Monday clamped curfew in the city in view of “specific inputs” about violent protests on August 5, the first anniversary of the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under Article 370.

Srinagar District Magistrate Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said in an order that the curfew will come into force with immediate effect and shall remain in effect on August 4 and August 5.

Based on certain inputs received from Sr. superintendent of police Srinagar suggesting that some separatist groups may try to disrupt the law and order situation in Srinagar district and observe August 5th as black day . Therefore the administration in order to prevent such violence has decided to impose strict restrictions with immediate effect and shall remain in force on 4th and 5th August 2020.

Meanwhile, the restrictions previously ordered dated 31st July 2020 on account of COVID-19 shall continue thereafter till 8th August 2020, the order reads.
