Srinagar Observes Christmas with Prayers, Emphasis on Peace and Harmony
Srinagar observed Christmas on Thursday with special prayers and religious services held at the Holy Family Catholic Church, the city’s main place of worship for the Christian community. The festival was marked in a solemn and peaceful manner, in keeping with local tradition.
Members of the Christian community gathered at the church to attend special Mass services commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ (AS). The church was tastefully decorated with lights, stars and a Christmas tree, reflecting the spiritual significance of the occasion rather than elaborate celebrations.
To ensure smooth and peaceful observance, adequate security arrangements were put in place in and around the church. Police personnel were deployed, and traffic movement was regulated to facilitate easy access for worshippers.
Church officials said the prayers focused on peace, harmony and goodwill, with special supplications for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Members of the Christian community appreciated the arrangements and thanked the administration for its support in ensuring a peaceful celebration.
Meanwhile, senior officials of the Jammu and Kashmir administration extended warm greetings to the people on the occasion of Christmas, wishing peace, prosperity and communal harmony.
Christmas in Srinagar is traditionally observed in a limited and religious manner, with celebrations largely confined to prayer services at the Holy Family Catholic Church.
