Pulwama: The administration in Jammu & Kashmir has deputed a single tehsildar for three tehsils in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, causing hardships to the local people amid coronavirus (COVID-19).
Witnesses told Arising State that thousands of people particularly the students are suffering on daily basis due to the temporary arrangement of tehsildar made by the government.
A delegation of locals outside one of the tehsil building have said that there is only one tehsildar available for three tehsils i-e. Tral, Aripal and Awantipora in Pulwama district.
They said that people spend days here for a single signature/seal on domicile & income certificates but they usually go back without getting their work done.
“In wake of load, this tehsildar looks after one tehsil mostly, thereby leaving two other tehsils unattended. The people usually move from pillar to post in search of him but they don’t find him as he remain busy in another tehsil with several revenue works,” locals said, adding they see him once or twice in a week, that too for few hours.
They further added that this practice has created a lot of problems for the people as their grievances and important work is not getting done on time.
One of the residents has said that only fake assurances are being given about the signature and other processes on domicile, income and other documents.
“It’s very sad and unfortunate that govt. has kept these tehsils without tehsildars. We are only getting fake assurances since months as no concrete step is being taken to appoint the tehsildars here” a local said.
An official has earlier said that new tehsildar will be appointed soon for Tral & Aripal tehsils of Pulwama, however, nothing is being done in this regard, as few days back, many tehsildars were appointed in Kashmir parts, but these tehsils were ignored.
The locals particularly students have demanded that the tehsildars should be deputed in all these tehsils at the earliest, so that they don’t suffer anymore.
Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), S.A. Raina has said that tehsildar for Tral & Aripal tehsils is ‘the need of hour’ for which the efforts are going on.
