Sgr, Jmu to get PM Ekta unity malls to promote local handicrafts, industrial products
Srinagar: Jammu and Srinagar are set to get PM Ekta Unity Malls, with a total investment of Rs 255 crore, aimed at promoting local handicrafts, industrial products, and Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged goods from J&K.According to an official document, the malls will serve as dedicated marketplaces for selling One District One Product (ODOP) items, traditional Kashmiri crafts such as Pashmina shawls, carpets, papier-mâché, and walnut wood carvings.
The document states that initiative is part of the Government of India’s broader vision to support local industries, offering artisans and small businesses a structured commercial space to showcase their products to a wider market.It also highlights that the malls will provide opportunities for expanding sales and integrating local goods into larger retail and e-commerce networks.The document states that the project aligns with the J&K Start-Up Policy 2024-27 and the New Industrial Policy 2021-30, reinforcing the government’s focus on boosting local economies, creating employment, and attracting investment in the region.
