RTO Kashmir Imposes Rs 7.98 Lakh in Fines During Traffic Enforcement Drive

Srinagar, Nov 16: The Motor Vehicles Department, under the supervision of Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, conducted an enforcement drive across the Kashmir Division to address traffic violations.

The initiative aimed to ensure road safety and compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

During the drive, 2,338 vehicles, including buses, school buses, goods carriers, and private vehicles, were checked. Violations were identified in 586 vehicles, leading to fines totaling ?7.98 lakh. Offences included driving without helmets and seat belts, overloading, underage driving, and lapses in fitness and insurance certificates. Eleven vehicles were seized as part of the operation.

The enforcement drive covered districts such as Srinagar, Pulwama, Baramulla, Kulgam, and Ganderbal. Srinagar reported the highest fine collection at ?2.22 lakh, with significant actions in Kulgam and Ganderbal as well.

RTO Kashmir emphasized the role of community leaders, religious figures, and teachers in raising awareness about traffic rules and road safety. The department has urged citizens to comply with traffic regulations to ensure safer roads for all.
