Tral: Rockslide on under construction road giving sleepless nights to Sofigund residents

Tral, 26 April: The residents of Sofigund hamlet are having sleepless nights due to the  recent rockslides on an under construction road in south Kashmir’s Aripal tehsil of Tral sub division.

A group of residents told Arising State that rolling down of rocks on Dar-Sofigund road, which is being constructed by R&B for years on end pose threat to the people and their property, as few of the residential houses had a narrow escape in the recent rockslide incident.

They said that following the said incident, people are ‘not able to sleep’ now, and alleged that they even informed concerned authorities about it, but  the administration did not pay any heed to the problem .

Expressing their anxiety over the safety of their near and dear ones ,one of the residents Ghulam Rasool Sofi said , “road is being constructed for around five years by R&B, which is getting delayed by one or the other reason.”Adding, “authorities were informed about rocksliding,but their assurances rang hollow.

Another resident Mushtaq Ahmad said that “work on protection bunds should be upgraded to avoid rocksliding incidents on the road.”

Mushtaq further said that drainage system should also be constructed on the right side of the road, where rock/landslides occur.

The residents demanded the completion of this project at the earliest to heave a sigh of relief.

When contacted ADC Tral, S.A. Raina, he said that he will be seeking report from the R&B department, related to the project, soon.
