PRIs & ULBs Elected Members To Recieve Life Insurance Worth Rs 25 Lakhs
In a major decision taken by the Jammu & Kashmir administration council on Saturday, it has announced that elected members of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) will receive a life insurance cover of Rs 25 lakhs in case of death due to militancy related incidents. The decision was taken by the council under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu.
The decision aims at strengthening the grassroots of democracy by providing a sense of security to the elected members of local bodies who are under constant threat from militants.
The life insurance cover will act as a guarantee for the subsistence for the family members of the elected representatives, in case of death due to militancy-related incidents. It will ensure that their families do not face any economic distress and poverty in case of any untoward incident thereby continue to fulfill basic needs of life like nutrition, education, and health in adverse circumstances also.
