Kulgam, June 18 : Tragedy struck Srandoo village of Kulgam as 30-year-old Nancy, a pregnant woman, died at the District Hospital Kulgam, triggering serious allegations of medical negligence and widespread anger among residents.

Nancy, wife of Showkat Ahmad Bhat, was admitted to the hospital for delivery, but her family claims she did not receive timely or adequate treatment, which they believe led to her untimely death. “She was left unattended when she needed immediate care,” a grieving relative told Kashmir News Trust, adding that hospital staff showed apathy despite repeated pleas.

The incident has shocked the local community, prompting demands for a transparent probe and accountability for those responsible.
Reacting to the uproar, Medical Superintendent Dr. A.G. Raina said the hospital administration has taken the matter seriously. “A committee will be constituted to investigate the case. If any negligence or procedural lapse is found, strict action will be taken to ensure justice,” he assured.

As the family mourns their loss, the spotlight is once again on the fragile state of maternal healthcare in district hospitals, where delays, lack of oversight, and staff shortages often turn routine deliveries into tragedies. (CNS)
