Former Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University, Prof. Wahid Qureshi Passes Away

Srinagar, Nov 17: Former Kashmir University (KU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Wahid Qureshi passed away at SKIMS Srinagar on Sunday morning.

A distinguished academic, Prof. Qureshi was the senior-most professor at the University of Kashmir, where he notably served as a Professor of Economics and primarily taught macroeconomics. He also led the Economics Department as its Head during the 1990s before his tenure as Vice Chancellor.

Prof. Qureshi served as VC of KU from 2004 to 2008. After completing his tenure at KU, he retired from his service. In 2009, he was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) for a period of five years.

A native of Karnah in the Kupwara district, Prof. Qureshi was residing in Srinagar at the time of his passing. His body is being taken to Karnah for the last rites, where he will be buried in his ancestral graveyard.

Condolences have been pouring in from various walks of life to mourn the demise of Prof. Wahid Qureshi, remembering his contributions to academia and the field of economics.
