One-Day Seminar on “Sheikh Ul Alam (RA): Life and Poetry”

Kupwara, 17 March: One-Day Seminar on “Sheikh Ul Alam (RA): Life and Poetry” was organized by GDC Sogam (Lolab), Kupwara on 17th March 2022. It was jointly organized by the Cultural Committee, Debates & Seminar Committee (D&SC), in collaboration with Departments of Kashmiri and Islamic Studies of the College.

Prof. M. Shafi Lone (Principal, GDC Sogam) was the patron of the event and the Conveners were Dr Tauseef Ahmad Parray (Asstt. Prof., Islamic Studies; Convener, D&SC) and Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Kumar (Asstt. Prof., Kashmiri; Convener, Cultural Committee).

The Seminar started with the recitation of the Qur’anic verses by Ms Iqra Mushtaq (3rd Sem) followed by the Naat and recitation of Kalam-i Sheikh-Ul-Alam, respectively by Mr Mohd. Irshad Lone and Ms Seerat Bhat (both from 3rd Sem).

The Seminar was moderated by Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah (Asst. Prof., Education). In his “Welcome Address”, the worthy Principal formally welcomed the guest speaker and all the participants amd laid emphasis on the importance of organizing seminars on such intellectual luminarias.

He also threw light on the socio-intellectual scenario of Sheikh-Ul-Alam and his Da’wah activities. In his “Seminar Introduction”, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad highlighted the objectives of the Seminar and the relevance of this theme in the current scenario; he also presented a brief profile of the guest speaker.

Dr Sumeer Mohi-ud-Din (Asstt. Prof., Kashmiri, HKM Degree College Bandipora) was the key resource person for the said event who thoroughly deliberated on the life and poetry of Sheikh-Ul-Alam (RA) — its philosophy, impact on the various facets of society and its contemporary relevance, which was full of references to the basic and authentic sources on this topic.

He also demystified the various myths associated with certain life events and poetry of Sheikh-Ul-Alam.

Two (2) students, namely Ms Salma Jahangir (2nd Sem) and Mr Tahir Reyaz Khan (3rd Sem), also spoke on this occasion by highlighting socio-religious and and environmental message ingrained in the poetry of Sheikh-Ul-Alam.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Prof. Sajad Ahmad (Asst. Prof., English) and the Repotteur of the event was Dr Tauseef Ahmad Parray. At the end, Mementos and Certificates were distributed among the guest speaker and organizers.

The seminar was attended by a large number of students and the staff members.
