Omar Abdullah to Meet Amit Shah: Focus on Statehood Restoration and Administrative Reforms
Srinagar, Dec 17: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is set to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday to discuss pivotal issues, including the restoration of statehood and the implementation of business rules.
This will be Omar Abdullah’s second meeting with the Home Minister since assuming office as Chief Minister of the Union Territory. Sources indicate that Omar is optimistic about the Centre’s assurances on statehood restoration, which were conveyed during his earlier meeting with Shah. However, despite repeated commitments, the Union Government has yet to provide a definitive timeline for the restoration process.
In addition to statehood, Abdullah is expected to address the administrative challenges stemming from the absence of the Transaction of Business Rules (TBR). Over two months since the formation of the elected government, the lack of clearly defined rules has created a power vacuum between the Chief Minister’s administration and the Lieutenant Governor’s office.
This dual control has reportedly led to inefficiencies in governance, emphasizing the need for immediate implementation of TBR to delineate powers and streamline administrative processes.
The upcoming meeting is viewed as a crucial opportunity to resolve these pressing issues, with expectations that the Centre will provide clarity on the roadmap for statehood restoration and measures to improve governance in the region.
