Srinagar, Nov 27: A non-local confectioner allegedly attacked a shopkeeper and his wife in their home at Hazratbal, on the outskirts of Srinagar, in a shocking robbery attempt on Wednesday evening. The assailant, hailing from Uttar Pradesh and reportedly under the influence of alcohol, is said to have been a regular customer at the victim’s shop.

Ghulam Rasool Khan, the shopkeeper, recounted that the attacker, wearing a mask, broke into their residence and assaulted his wife with a sharp weapon, causing severe injuries to her wrists. Khan intervened to defend his wife and raised an alarm, which led to the police arriving promptly at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that the attacker attempted to steal gold bangles from Khan’s wife during the assault. The police apprehended the suspect and registered an FIR (No. 175) at the local police station. Superintendent of Police, Hazratbal, Hilal Khaliq Bhat, assured swift and strict action, emphasizing the commitment to curbing criminal activities in the area.

A forensic team has collected evidence from the crime scene as part of the ongoing investigation. Reports suggest that the accused and the victim were acquainted, with the confectioner being a regular patron of Khan’s shop.

The incident has raised concerns among residents about safety, prompting calls for increased vigilance in the area.
