Mystery Illness in Rajouri: Experts Find One Common Factor In Dead, Damage to Brain, Nervous System

 Srinagar, Jan 23: The administration has quarantined over 200 individuals, who came in contact with the affected families of the 17 people who died due to the mysterious illness in Rajouri. 

The individuals have been relocated to a quarantine centre set up in the building of a nursing college and GMC hospital in Rajouri, officials said.

According to the top health officials who are part of the expert teams working in the area told that a common factor among all those who lost their lives in Badhaal village is the involvement of brain and damage to the nervous system.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also today said that as of now they have found that this is not any virus or bacteria. He said that the medical team, SIT and MHA led inter-ministerial teams are ascertaining the reasons behind the deaths and they will get the answers soon.

Meanwhile, ruling National Conference (NC) leader and MLA Javaid Iqbal Choudhary has demanded the imposition of a medical emergency to save people and contain the spread of such a mysterious illness. “The government should declare Medical emergency to save the population”, Choudhary told the reporters.

Strict security measures have been implemented at the quarantine centre located in the nursing college building in Rajouri, designated specifically for quarantine purposes. The facility has been secured with fencing and rigorous monitoring, they said. 

Meanwhile, Minister for Health and Medical, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today visited the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu and SMGS Hospital, Shalamar to enquire about the health and well being of patients of Budhal village of Rajouri district.

Sakeena Itoo interacted with the patients of Budhal and assured them of all possible assistance and support from the government. He assured the affected families that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the cause of the tragedy. “Health department, police department and district administration is working tirelessly 24*7 to ascertain the real cause behind this tragedy”, the Minister stated.
