Mirwaiz Manzil Lawaypora Expresses Concern Over Mass Arrests in Kashmir

Srinagar: Mirwaiz North Kashmir, Chairman Mutahida Aima Forum JK, and Chairman Muslim Mutahida Mahaaz JK, Moulana Parray Hassan Afzal Firdousi, has expressed deep concern over the recent mass arrests carried out by security forces in Kulgam and other areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

Reports published in The Indian Express indicate that over 500 individuals have been detained across the Valley following the tragic killing of a retired serviceman. While every act of violence and harm to innocent lives is condemnable, the large-scale detention of individuals based solely on their familial association with militants is a matter of serious concern. Such actions, rather than fostering peace, risk escalating tensions and deepening hostility.

Authorities have been urged to release the detainees immediately, as indiscriminate arrests can vitiate the atmosphere and create further unrest. The broader issue in Jammu and Kashmir, according to Firdousi, is the lack of understanding among those in power regarding the region’s sensitivities and ground realities. Furthermore, political biases within local law enforcement contribute to the prevailing challenges.

What is needed, he emphasized, is leadership with a genuine understanding of Kashmir and its complexities—someone with deep roots in the region who can address its issues with empathy and insight.
