MC Anantnag warns shopkeepers on littering footpaths, roads

Anantnag: Municipal Committee Anantnag has warned Anantnag town shopkeepers on littering roads and footpaths in Anantnag town. The Shopkeepers were asked to use twin colour dustbins, while fine to the tune of Rs. 10000 will be imposed upon those shopkeepers, who will be found littering on the Roads and Foot Paths.
Offcial sources told to Arising State that, Stepping up against the practice of throwing garbage on the streets, footpaths, roads and in drains by the shopkeepers, eateries, & vendors etc within the limits of Municipal Council Anantnag.
The Municipal Council Anantnag authorities conducted drive in the main markets of the Town Anantnag and those found littering were penalised and a fine of Rs. 10000 was imposed.
The shopkeepers were asked to use twin colour dustbins and hand over the waste directly to Sanitation Staff /Hopper drivers instead of throwing outside their shops, sources said.
They said that action comes after it was noticed by the authorities that the shopkeepers would sweep and collect the waste generated from their shops and dump it on the road and paths creating an eyesore.
“The small and large commercial establishments, including malls, vendors and traders were asked to keep five metre radius of their premises, garbage and litter free,” sources added.
