Major Blow to Drug Networks, Five Held Under PIT-NDPS in Srinagar

Srinagar, Feb 06: Srinagar Police have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking by booking five notorious drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act. The action follows formal detention orders issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, based on dossiers prepared by the police.

According to a statement that reads , the accused, identified as Mohd Toyoub Sheikh of Surnai Mohalla Kawdara, Abrar Ahmad Misger alias “Aaba” of Shah Hamdan Colony Zakoora, Milad Bashir Bhat of Doolipora Kawdara, Mohd Rafiq Patoo of Shah Mohalla Ahmad Nagar, and Muneer Ahmad Bhat of Sonwar, have been detained and lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal, Jammu, as well as district jails in Udhampur and Kathua.

Further it reads, these individuals were actively involved in drug peddling across Srinagar, operating an extensive narcotics network targeting local youth. Despite multiple cases registered against them under the NDPS Act, they continued their illegal activities after securing bail.

In addition to their detention, police have initiated the process of attaching their properties under PIT-NDPS provisions. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and warned those involved that stringent action will follow.

J&K Police emphasized that offenders will be brought to justice, urging citizens to support efforts in curbing the drug menace in the region.
