Ladakh Administration approves 6th State Awards on Republic Day

Leh: The Union Territory Administration of Ladakh has approved the conferment of the 6th State Awards for the year 2025 on the occasion of Republic Day 2026. These prestigious awards recognise outstanding contributions by individuals and organisations across a range of fields, including public service, bravery, arts, literature, social reform, sports, and progressive entrepreneurship, as part of the Republic Day celebrations.

According to the official list issued by the General Administration Department, recipients include Sonam Lotus, Scientist F with the Meteorological Department (MeT) in Leh, honoured under Public Service for his exemplary work. Brave acts were recognised in the Bravery Category, with Tashi Namgial (Shangul, Kargil) and Sonam Chosphel (Minji, Kargil) honored for their courage. In Literature, Art and Craft, Konchok Rigzin of Thrinles Nangal, Leh, received recognition for outstanding creative contributions.

The awards also celebrate contributions in Social Reform, Empowerment and Environment Protection, with Thubstan Shastri of Nangsar Thuptse, Leh, being chosen, while Yangchan Dolma of Saboo, Leh, and the Ladakh Organic and Green Initiative Consultancy led by Ahmad Ali of Bemathang, Kargil, were recognised in the Entrepreneurship and Progressive Farming category. In the Sports Category, Mohd Abbas Norkdakh and Abida Afreen from Leh earned State Awards for their achievements in athletics and sporting excellence.

Each awardee—or their designated family representative—will receive a cash prize of 51,000, along with a medal and citation, with a separate formal presentation ceremony to be organised by the UT Administration of Ladakh. The State Awards reaffirm the commitment of the Ladakh Administration to honour meritorious service and inspire others to contribute meaningfully to the social, cultural, environmental, and developmental progress of the Union Territory.
