Kralgund Hospital Upgrade Falls Short as Staff Shortages Persist

Kralgund, Dec 6: Despite its recent upgrade, the Sub-District Hospital in Kralgund continues to face a severe shortage of medical staff, leaving over 40,000 residents without adequate healthcare services. The much-anticipated improvements following the hospital’s upgrade have yet to materialize, with staffing levels falling drastically short of community needs.

Local residents report that the hospital currently has only one surgeon available on a weekly basis, forcing patients to travel to facilities in Handwara or Baramulla for even basic consultations. This lack of regular surgical services has left many without timely care, especially in emergencies.

The hospital’s gynecology services are equally sparse, with a gynecologist present only once a week. This has particularly impacted women requiring consistent prenatal and maternal healthcare, raising serious concerns among families in the area.

“We were hopeful the upgrade would bring substantial relief, but it feels like only the signboard has changed,” lamented a local resident. “We still face the same challenges, with no improvement in medical staffing or services.”

The ongoing staff shortages have prompted widespread frustration, with locals calling on authorities to address the issue urgently. Residents argue that the hospital’s upgrade must translate into functional and consistent healthcare services, including the deployment of doctors, specialists, and support staff.

“The government needs to take immediate action. A hospital cannot operate effectively without adequate medical personnel, especially when thousands of people rely on it for their health,” said another resident.

The community hopes that the authorities will act swiftly to ensure the hospital meets its intended role as a vital healthcare provider for the region.
