JKCC to march towards Raj Bhawan to press for release of bills
Srinagar, May 04: The J&K Contractor’s Coordination Committee (JKCC) has contemplated a plan to carry out a protest march towards Raj Bhawan on Monday (May 06, 2019) against the government’s failure to release their bills which are pending with various departments.
The chairman of the JKCC in a communiqué has ‘requested’ all the contractors of the Kashmir valley to join the peaceful march towards Raj Bhawan on Monday. The handout of the committee further states that the rally would be started from engineering complex, Raj Bagh, Srinagar at 10 a.m. on the given date.
It is worth mentioning that the contractors after executing government works have not been paid their dues as the bills submitted by them have not been cleared so far. Notably, the contractors heightened the stir when the state government issued a circular which states that only 15 per cent of the payments would be released. In this connection, vide an order number 186-F of 2019 dated 7 March 2019, the Finance department reiterated instructions issued vide Circular number 109-FD of 2009, dated 31 Jan 2019 shall be restricted to not more than 15 percent of the revised estimates 2018-2019.
The contractors called the inept attitude of the government towards their problems very harsh and have warned of very serious repercussions regarding the development of the valley.
Even the agitating contractors have threatened to close all the projects, boycott all the tenders in Kashmir and lock down all the district treasury offices if the governor does not take his decision back and release their pending bills.
