Jameel Maas : Travelling for miles to make both ends meet

Anantnag: 53- year old Jameel Maas (aunt) hailing from Hazratbal area of Srinagar leaves her home in the wee hours to reach south Kashmir’s Anantnag town. Her schedule is fixed from last 33 years. Each morning, Jameel Maas travels to Anantnag town , about 45 Km away from her hometown. There she sets up a shop at a footpath near Driver Masjid and sells her daily catch of fish .
While Talking to Arising state Jameel Maas said that she has been selling fish for the last 33 years in Anantnag town. ”I start my day quite early in the morning, and each day I get fresh catch of fish from Srinagar to sell it in Anantnag . People here know me and call me Maasa out of love,she said.”
Jameel lives with her three daughters and two sons . Jameel’s husband is suffering from an ailment,hence Jameel has to work hard to fulfill the family needs.
Jameel is all in praise for the Chairman Municipal committee Anantnag, Hilal Ahmad Shah ,who never stopped Jameel for selling fish on footpath.
Jameela boosts about the quality of fish,she sells .Talking to AS Jameela said that during the last 33 years,she has never received a single complaint . The reason being she has maintained the quality standard . She sells fresh fish and never compromises on the quality . That has helped her to gain popularity among people who come from nearby areas of Anantnag town to buy her fresh fish, Jameela exclaimed.
While talking to Arising state, a consumer ,Abdul Hameed said that he has been visiting Jameela for the last three years to buy fish . ‘Jameela sells fresh fish and her prices are reasonable ‘, he said.
Jameela like several other women is working hard to make her both ends meet.
