Srinagar, Mar 1: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday urged people to maintain peace and communal harmony in the wake of the developments in Iran, as the union territory’s administration coordinated with the Centre to ensure the safety of its residents in the Persian Gulf nation.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO)  said CM Omar appealed to all communities to exercise restraint and refrain from any actions that could lead to tension.
“He (CM) urged people to maintain peace and communal harmony in view of the current developments in Iran,” the CM office stated.
The appeal comes amid widespread international media reports regarding the situation in the West Asian country.
The Chief Minister further stated that the Jammu and Kashmir administration is in close touch with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to ascertain the safety and well-being of students and other residents of the union territory currently in Iran.
“The government is closely monitoring the situation and is committed to safeguarding the interests of J&K citizens abroad,” the post added.
Authorities are currently working to gather details regarding the number of residents from the region currently present in Iran to ensure their safety. (KNS)
