In a first, PaK bride joins DDC poll fray
Kupwara, Dec 01: In a first, a resident of Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) resident is contesting the ongoing District Development Council (DDC), elections from Drugmulla constituency in Kupwara district
According to reports, Somaya Latif, a resident of Muzaffarabad, in Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) accompanied his husband who had gone to other side of the LoC for arms training and returned through a rehabilitation policy of J&K. The policy allowed all persons who crossed over the border back in the 90s and shun the path of violence. Her husband too choose to live a normal life and returned to this part of Kashmir.
In Drugmulla where Somaya is contesting the ongoing District Development Council (DDC) election will witness a nail-biting contest among 11 candidates.
” I am contesting elections for the welfare of people, not personal benefit. They encouraged me to contest the election. I have been part of the SRLM scheme during which the fieldwork has evoked a huge response and I am well aware of the sufferings of the common masses,” she said.
She is very much hopeful of win and says people already know the job of their SRLM group besides family ensure her more support.
She added 350 women along with their husbands and children under the rehabilitation scheme 2010 have come here with peaceful massage and are in regular touch including 75 are residing in Kupwara who are maintaining close contact with each other.
Somaya also has not discussed the decision with them, however, she is sure they would be happy to see me representing them.
“I would work for the Pakistani brides who have come from across the border and living here and also for the local people,” she said. “I’m very sure about the support of people. Now I urge the voters to vote in my favor.
