IMCSD organizes cyber awareness session for Media Interns

 The Institute of Mass Communication and Skill Development (IMCSD) today organised a comprehensive cyber awareness interaction for its media interns at the Cyber Police Station, Jammu Zone. The visit was part of the ongoing Summer Media Internship Programme 2025-26, and included students from Government Women’s College, Bhagwati Nagar, and M.A.M College, Jammu.The session was held under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (SP) Kameshwar Puri, Incharge Cyber Police Station, Jammu Zone, and was led by DySP Priyanka Kumari, who welcomed the interns and delivered an in-depth briefing on the growing challenges posed by cybercrimes in today’s digital era.

 During her address, DySP Priyanka Kumari elaborated on various forms of online threats such as phishing, identity theft, online financial fraud, social media misuse, and cyberbullying. She highlighted the critical role of public awareness, digital literacy, and responsible online behavior in combating cybercrime.Explaining the functioning of the Cyber Police Station, DySP Priyanka provided insights into the legal framework governing cybercrime investigations, complaint handling mechanisms, and the importance of timely reporting. She also introduced the interns to the processes involved in digital forensics and the technical challenges encountered by law enforcement agencies in tracing cyber offenders.

 Addressing the interns, DySP Priyanka Kumari remarked, “As budding journalists, you are the voice of society in the digital age. Beyond reporting, your responsibility extends to educating and empowering the public on the risks of the cyber world. Use your platforms to promote cyber awareness and contribute towards building a digitally secure nation.”The interactive session saw enthusiastic participation from the interns, who raised several queries pertaining to digital safety, cyber laws, and investigative procedures.

 The session provided the students with valuable practical exposure to the functioning of cyber policing and real-world challenges faced by cyber crime units.The visit was coordinated by senior journalist and executive member of IMCSD, Vicky Verma, who accompanied the students and facilitated the interaction.The interns expressed their appreciation to SP Kameshwar Puri, DySP Priyanka Kumari, and the entire cyber police team for the enriching and informative session.
