IFJHR expresses concern over deteriorating health of Sehrai, others; demands early release

(Arising State): International Forum For Justice and Human Rights chairman Mohammed Ahsan Untoo on Friday expressed concern over the deteriorating health conditions of Tehreek Hurriyat chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai who is currently lodged in Udhampur Jail.

In a statement issued to Arising State, Untoo has said that Tehreek Hurriyat chairman Sehraie is suffering from severe joint pain, hypertension, and many more diseases as per his medical report. He has been advised lamboscral orthosis and needs immediate medical attention. Unfortunately, authorities at Udhampur Jail has not provided any medical facility as has been advised by his doctors at Bone and Joint Hospital Srinagar.

“The octogenarian leader has his medical reports with him but the criminal attitude of authorities is putting his life in danger by not providing him the required medical assistance. The same is the case with Mohammed Yasin Malik, Dr. Qasim Fuktoo, and Syeda Asiya Andrabi who are also suffering from multiple ailments and have been advised certain tests and medications which is not being provided on time”, the statement said.

It added that Asiya Andrabi has serious health issues that need super specialty medical attention and if authorities cannot provide the same then she should be immediately released so that her life can be saved.

“The other leaders lodged in Tihar Jail Delhi Shabir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Masrat Alam Bhat, Peer Saifullah, Ameer Hamza, Mehraj ud din Kalwal, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Ayaz Akber, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Aftab Shah, Fehmeeda Sofi, Nahida Nasreen, and others are also victims of criminal apathy of jail authorities. These leaders and many more have been jailed without any reason and justification their only crime being to demand their right of self-determination”, the statement said.

He, as per statement said that United Nations special reports on prisoners must take cognizance and ensure that all these political prisoners should be released forthwith so that justice is done with them and all others. (Arising State)
