Hilly Roads in Kashmir to Remain Closed Amid Weather Warnings: Traffic Police Issues Advisory
April 19 : In response to prevailing weather conditions and forecasts of rain and snowfall, the Traffic Police Office Rural Kashmir has issued an official advisory announcing the continued closure of key hilly routes, including SSG Road, Mughal Road, and Sinthon Road, for tomorrow.
The advisory states that these roads will remain inaccessible until the concerned road maintenance authorities provide clearance. Once deemed safe, the roads will be reopened for vehicular traffic. Meanwhile, motorists and commuters are urged to adhere strictly to the guidelines provided in the advisory.
The movement along hilly roads will be permitted only as per the prescribed cut-off timings and daily advisories from the Traffic Headquarters J&K. Travelers are advised to confirm travel timings by contacting TPRC Kashmir at the following numbers: 0194-2482200, 0194-2450022, 0194-2485396, or the toll-free number 103.
Cautioning against potential risks, the advisory emphasizes that vehicle breakdowns on these routes could result in unpleasant incidents. As such, travelers should ensure their vehicles are fitted with anti-skid equipment, have enough fuel, and that essential systems such as the battery, front lights, and wipers are fully functional.
Additional safety instructions include wearing seat belts and crash helmets, maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles, driving within prescribed speed limits, and refraining from overtaking on frosty roads or parking on the roadside. Drivers are also advised to avoid fun driving, take extra precautions during foggy conditions, and maintain lane discipline.
Commercial vehicle drivers are specifically warned against overloading, exceeding height limits, or allowing overhanging loads, as these violations can lead to accidents and fatalities.
The advisory concludes with a note on the Srinagar-Jammu highway, emphasizing that vehicular movement during unfavorable weather will be permitted strictly in accordance with daily advisories issued by the Traffic Headquarters J&K. Commuters are urged to plan their travel accordingly.
