Handwara gunfight continues for second day, IGP Kashmir
A fierce gunfight between militants and government forces in Handwara continues for the second consecutive day,while as intermittent firing from both sides is going on in Langate area of the district. IGP Kashmir SP Pani told reporters that there was no breach of Standard Operating Procedure in conducting the operation but the area was congested and they had to evacuate civilians from the site. Four security forces personnel were killed on Friday after militants, presumed to be dead, opened fire on the forces leading to fatal injuries .The injured personnel were airlifted, shifted in a hospital ,however the later succumbed there .“ Inspector General of police (IGP), Kashmir S P Pani on Saturday said the operation in Handwara was still on.Addressing reporters at the wreath laying ceremony of the slain cops on Saturday said, ‘ the operation is on and that they will share the details once the operation is over. He said two militants are believed to be trapped in Babagund village.’
Two CRPF troopers, two policemen and a civilian were killed in the gunfight and clashes yesterday.
