Gutligund Jaundice Outbreak: GMC Anantnag Forms Expert Team to Investigate Situation

Anantnag: Uncertainty looms over Gutligund village in Anantnag district following a reported outbreak of jaundice. However, the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department has asserted that the village’s water supply is fit for drinking. According to a report shared with Arising State, the department claims that all water parameters were tested according to the guidelines of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and found to be within permissible limits.
Despite this assurance, Arising State reported yesterday on the jaundice outbreak in Gutligund village. At least 27 people, mostly children, have contracted the infection, which authorities suspect is linked to contaminated water. Fortunately, all affected individuals are stable and are being closely monitored.
In response to the outbreak, the Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag has formed a five-member expert team to investigate the situation. The team is tasked with identifying the possible source of contamination, implementing preventive measures, and providing necessary health care interventions. The team is expected to visit the village and submit an action plan to the Principal of GMC Anantnag by the end of the month.
In addition, the Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag, Dr. Syed Fakhrudeen Hamid, along with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Anantnag and PHE officials, visited the village today. They advised residents not to panic, recommending the consumption of boiled water and emphasizing the importance of maintaining proper hygiene. The Deputy Commissioner also directed the PHE Department to take immediate action and ensure the supply of clean drinking water to the affected area.
