Gunfight rages in Melhura Shopian

Encounter broke out between militants and government forces in Melhura area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday.
Police official said that after receiving tip-off about the presence of militants, joint team of J&K Police, Army’s 55RR and CRPF launched Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the area.
“As the joint team of forces encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon forces indiscriminately, triggering an gunfight in the area”, police official said.
He said the gunfight site has been clutched by the join team of forces and all entry and exit points towards the village have been sealed off.
He further said the trapped militants have been offered to surrender, however firing from both sides were going on.
