A day after the Centre decided to send an additional 28,000 troop to Kashmir, he central government has now put the Army and Air Force on high alert in Jammu and Kashmir.

Rashtriya Rifles and other regular units deployed on the LoC have been asked to be prepared for any attempts by Pakistan to push terrorists into the Kashmir valley.

Indian Air Force fighter aircrafts have been patrolling over Jammu and Kashmir since Thursday evening as part of the operational alert. The steps have been taken in view of the increased troop induction.

Reacting to the development of Air Force and Army being on high alert, former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah said, “What “ongoing situation” in Kashmir would require the army AND the Air Force to be put on alert? This isn’t about 35A or delimitation. This sort of alert, if actually issued, would be about something very different.”

Over 280 companies of security forces, which are 28,000 troops, are in the process of being deployed in the Kashmir valley, official sources said on Thursday.
