GDC Tral organises workshop on Financial Education and Income Management
Tral, 18 March: Career counselling Cell, GDC Tral in collaboration with National Centre for Financial Education (NCFE) organised a National Workshop on Financial Education and Income Management on Friday.
The workshop was conducted with the aim of providing financial literacy and awareness among the participants.
The keynote address was presented by Prof. Adil Rehman (Asst. Prof. Dept. of Commerce) who also moderated the proceedings of the entire program, highlighted the importance of having financial education and literacy in the present era. While welcoming the guests, Prof. Syeda Laila Khalid (Asst. Prof. Dept. of English) highlighted the importance of conducting such programmes so that financial literacy can be increased among the masses.
The inaugural address was delivered by the worthy Principal of the college Prof (Dr.) Mohammad Farooq Mir, wherein he emphasized that financial education is a necessary antidote to the increasing complexity of financial decision making. He stressed on the fact that financial literacy is considered as an important adjunct for promoting financial inclusion, financial development, financial stability and ultimately financial well-being of individuals.
He also highlighted the role and importance of technology in the financial world as technology has made banking very easy, but with all the advantages that the world of internet banking offers, there are certain risks like imposter scams, email frauds, phishing etc. involved, which remain a matter of huge concerns for us. He also stressed that financial literacy must be imparted at the school level to both rural and urban students.
The resource person for the workshop Dr. Altaf Ahmad Dar delivered his thought-provoking presentation on Financial Education and income Management.
He briefed the audience about different regulatory agencies like SEBI, NCFE etc. working at the national level and the role they play in creating financial awareness and literacy, & deliberated on the current NPS system prevalent in our country and it’s working thereof.
He emphasised the importance of diversifying one’s investment portfolio and the various investment opportunities present in market.
Three other resource persons (Mr. Wajid Andrabi, Mr. Syed Altaf, Mr. Hilal Hayder) from LIC of India highlighted the role and importance of insurance in the present era.
The program was formally concluded with vote of thanks presented by Prof. Bilal Ahmad Naikoo (Convenor Career Counselling cell, GDC Tral) and by felicitating the resource persons with certificates of appreciation.
