GDC Tral Organises Panel Discussion to Celebrate International Women’s Day

Tral: A Panel Discussion on the theme “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow” was organized on Thursday by the Women Development Cell in collaboration with NSS Girls Wing of GDC Tral.

The program was organised as a part of the week- long celebration of International Women’s Day. The opening remarks were delivered by Prof Syeda Laila Khalid, Convener Women Development Cell wherein she stressed the importance and role of societal conditioning and parental upbringing in mitigating the gender inequality by teaching children the importance of equality and respecting people.

It was followed by the inaugural address by the Principal of the college Prof (Dr)Mohammad Farooq Mir. He in his motivational speech narrated number of inspiring real life stories and personal experiences related to women and urged upon the girl students to be very strong, resolute and steadfast in translating their dreams.

In the technical session a Panel Discussion among students of various semesters was initiated. Ms Andleeb Amin of 3rd Semester, Ms Ummat ul Basit of 4th semester and Sawanpreet from 4th semester advocated that there is urgent need to spread awareness among women who don’t know about their own rights.

They reiterated and stressed upon other girl students the need to assert and recognize themselves as independent individuals and not only look from the prism as daughters, wives, mothers or other roles.

Concluding remarks were delivered by Prof. Fehmida Wani in which she vociferated and urged upon the students to try to change the mindset regarding gender equality and work for holistic development. The discussion was moderated by Prof Feroza Akhtar, Program officer NSS Girls Wing.Vote of thanks was delivered by Prof.(Dr) Arsheed Ahmad Malik .
