GDC Tral observes World Book Day, 405th Death Anniversary of William Shakespeare
Tral, 23 April: To commemorate the World Book Day and 405th Death Anniversary of William Shakespeare, the Department of English Language & Literature in collaboration with Debates, Seminar and Cultural Committee and IQAC of the college organized an e-symposium on the Google Meet platform in which students of undergraduate and postgraduate classes across the valley participated.
The program was inaugurated by the worthy Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Farooq Mir. In his inaugural address, he stressed that the closure of colleges must not become an impediment in organization of co-curricular activities.
He added that the contribution of Shakespeare to World Literature is colossal and through his wit and enrichment of the English Language, he shall be remembered ‘as long as men can breathe and eyes can see.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Ishaq Ahmad Wani (HOD English) in which he threw light on the life and works of William Shakespeare.
He also vociferated that we must cement our bond with books and books are treasures of knowledge.
Prof. Wani also advised the students to inculcate in themselves the habit of book reading on myriad subjects which is the only way to widen the horizon of thinking.
Prof. Syeda Laila Khalid, Mr. Sayar, Miss Uzma, Miss Andleeb, Miss Irtiza Bashir, Mr. Shahid, and Miss Iqra Showkat recited the famous sonnets of Shakespeare and some famous passages of World Literature.
The proceedings of the program were carried out by Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Dar who also spoke about Shakespearean sonnets as an example of a classic. A vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Ishaq Ahmad Wani.
