GDC Tral Celebrates International Women’s Day
Tral, 9 March: International Women’s Day was celebrated at Govt Degree College Tral on Tuesday, which was attended by the students and staff members.
The theme of the Seminar was “Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a COVID-19 World”.
The program was jointly organized by Women Development Cell and NSS Unit II (Girls’ Wing) of the college.
The inaugural session was initiated by the introductory remarks by Prof. Laila Khalid (Convenor, Women Development Cell).
Principal Prof. (Dr.) Bashir Ahmad Mir in his presidential address formally welcomed all the participants and acknowledged that besides the colossal developments in science and technology, the state of women in general has not changed.
He also iterated to address genuine issues of women. Prof. Feroza Majid (Program Officer NSS Unit II Girls’ Wing) delivered keynote address wherein she vociferated the need to celebrate women’s day.
The first technical session commenced with the student presentations. In this session Miss Andleeb of UG 2nd Semester, Miss Ishrat Jan of UG 5th Semester and Iqra Showkat of UG 3rd Semester spoke extensively on the theme of the seminar.
Prof. Syeda Laila Khalid, Convenor Women Development Cell in her elaborate presentation talked about the plight of women during and post pandemic scenario.
She also emphasised upon the need to involve women in decision and policy making in post pandemic recovery and response phase.
In the second technical session resource person of the event, Dr. Munejah Khan (Head Department of English Language and Literature, IUST, Awantipora, Kashmir) delivered an inspiring and motivational presentation.
She highlighted the themes and motifs related to gender discrimination in folk and popular literatures.
She insisted upon all the female students present in the seminar to choose challenge to bring about change.
At the end of the second technical session, the resource person and the speakers were felicitated. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Fehmida Wani (HOD History).
The proceedings of the programme were jointly conducted by Prof. Laila Khalid and Dr. Hilal Ahmad Wani.
