Fourth batch of 4,694 pilgrims leave for Amarnath shrine

Amid tight security a fourth batch of  4,600 pilgrims left Jammu for Kashmir on Wednesday to perform the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.

An official said that 4,694 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas Jammu in an escorted convoy of vehicles and headed towards the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps, an official said.

He said of these, 2,052 are headed for the Baltal base camp and 2,642 to Pahalgam.

The 45-day long annual Amarnath Yatra which started on July 1 has been going on smoothly. Till date, 11,456 pilgrims have paid their obeisance at Amarnath cave.

The 45-day Amarnath Yatra will end on August 15, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima festival.
