Anantnag 23, December: Son of JKPCC chief GA Mir lost the battle of maiden DDC election with a huge margin of 639 votes in South Kashmir’s Verinag block area of Anantnag district.
The victory of the independent candidate Peer Shahbaz shocked various politicians including congress leaders ,as the said area was known as the congress hub. The Dooru constituency ,where the Congress has had a strong foothold and where GA Mir served as MLA and Cabinet Minister several times .
Naseer Ahmad Mir the son of JKPCC chief Gulam Ahmad Mir lost the maiden DDC election from verinag block in South kashmir’s Anantnag District in opposition to the Independent candidate Peer Shahbaz.
36 year old Peer Shahbaz was expelled by the Congress party, day before announcement for the maiden DDC elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Peer Shahbaz was once the block president and chairman of BDC in Verinag area. Shahbaz represented as block president of Congress party for two years in the area. The reason behind his expulsion from the party has been vociferous criticism about the development and unemployment issue that have not been addressed in the Verinag block.
After being expelled from the Congress party Peer Shahbaz pledged from his supporters to file his nomination and contest the DDC election against the son of GA Mir who also had filed his nomination to contest the DDC election in Verinag block.
Six candidates were in fray in the verinag block among whom one belonged to the Congress, one to the BJP, and four were independents. However the competition was between peer Shahbaz and Mir Naseer the son of JKPCC chief GA Mir.
Remarkably, the Arising state had already published a story four weeks ago about the tough competition with the headline of “Verinag DDC Election: Expelled Congress candidate vows to defeat his rival son of JKPCC chief Gh Ahmad Mir”.
While celebrating the victory outside the counting booth in Khanabal Anantnag, Peer Shahbaz said that he was very thankful to the people of Verinag Shahabad Bala block who supported him, and helped him win this maiden DDC election. India was watching on this seat,on one side was JKPCC chief GA Mir and his Congress party ,and the other side the poor people from Shahabad Bala. It was also time when people from Verinag block made GA Mir Minister and today same people have rejected him and sent him back home. said Peer Shahbaz winning candidate of Verinag block.
I want to thank people for all their support and love. It was an extremely hard task to defeat such a powerful candidate backed by the JKPCC chief. My people chose me despite facing obstacles and pressures during the past several weeks,” he said.
Meanwhile the BJP candidate, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, only managed to get 108 votes in verinag block , the son Ghulam Mohammad Mir, a senior BJP leader shot dead by unknown gunmen at his home in May 2019.
Pertinently , BJP have lost all seats in Anantnag District among them Senior leader and MLC Sofi Yousuf ,his wife has also lost the DDC election battle in Srigufwara block.
