Every Possible Measure Taken to Ensure Peace in Srinagar”: IG CRPF
Srinagar, Nov 22: Inspector General of CRPF P. K. Sharma on Saturday said that an elaborate security grid is in place across Srinagar as the Third CRPF Cricket Tournament kicked off in the city.
Speaking to reporters, Sharma said the tournament—being held annually since 2023 in November–December—aims to promote sports and positively engage the youth.
This year, 123 teams from Srinagar, Baramulla and Ganderbal registered interest, but due to limited time, a draw was conducted and 16 teams were shortlisted, he informed.
The event is being organised in collaboration with the J&K Cricket Association, while the University of Kashmir has provided the grounds.
Emphasising youth involvement, the IG said age categories of U-19 and U-23 were prioritised. “Kashmir has immense cricketing talent. Through sports, we want to strengthen peace, harmony, and connect with the youth,” he said.
On overall security, Sharma said the CRPF, J&K Police, Army and civil administration are working in close coordination. “I won’t go into details since today is a sports event, but every possible measure has been taken to maintain peace,” he asserted.
Sharma added that CRPF’s 35-year service in Kashmir has seen growing cooperation from the people.
