Chairman Peoples Democratic Front ( PDF) Hakeem Yaseen has termed the action of Enforcement Directorate (ED) against sitting MP and former Chief Minister, Farooq Abdullah as a political vendetta to browbeat opposition in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Hakeem Yaseen said though nobody was above law the timing and the circumstances suggest that ED action against NC patron and former Chief Minister, Farooq Abdullah was sheer political vendetta and witch-hunting. He said since the day the present ruling party at the Centre took over reins, it opts for every lame excuse to undermine and subjugate voice of dissent in Jammu and Kashmir including those of mainstream political parties. He said it was most unfortunate that the democratic and constitutional rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir were being trampled with impunity each passing day. He said continued witch-hunting against political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir including Dr. Farooq Abdullah was deplorable. He described the use of central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to settle scores with opposition political parties as the darkest period of democracy in the country.

Hakeem Yaseen has urged the centre to rise above vested political considerations to help to restore democratic and secular values in the politically most sensitive border state like Jammu and Kashmir He has called for bringing flexibility in the Center’s rigid and egoistic policy towards Kashmir polity and shun operation of its unconstitutional and unfair means to score individual political milage He said the present policy of the center towards Kashmir affairs was against the overall interests of the country as it only adds to the already existing alienation among the people of Jammu and Kashmir
