DSEK Issues Advisory for School Safety Amid Inclement Weather
Srinagar, August 18: The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) on Monday issued an advisory for schools to ensure the safety of students and staff in view of the prevailing inclement weather and recent cloudburst incidents across the Valley.
According to the notification, all Chief Education Officers and Heads of Institutions (HOIs) have been asked to maintain heightened vigilance, especially in areas vulnerable to natural disasters. School staff are to be sensitized and trained on safety protocols related to heavy rainfall, flash floods, and cloudbursts.
The advisory places special focus on schools situated near water bodies such as rivers, streams, and lakes, directing them to remain on high alert. HOIs have been instructed to monitor water levels and weather forecasts regularly, prepare and rehearse evacuation plans with designated safe areas, and maintain constant communication with local authorities and disaster management agencies.
DSEK has emphasized accountability, stating that any lapse in implementing these measures will be viewed seriously. It further warned that the responsibility for any untoward incident or loss due to non-compliance will rest with the concerned Head of Institution.
