Dr. Arti Nanda Becomes First Indian-Origin President of International Society of Pediatric Dermatology

Milestone Achievement for Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi District

Reasi/Jammu, April :  In a historic development, Dr. Arti Nanda, an accomplished pediatric dermatologist from Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir, has been unanimously elected as the President of the International Society of Pediatric Dermatology (ISPD). She is the first person of Indian origin to hold this prestigious position.

The announcement was made during the World Congress of Pediatric Dermatology held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from April 7 to 11, 2025. Dr. Nanda succeeds Dr. Amy Paller of the United States and will serve a four-year term from 2025 to 2029.

Born in Jammu and raised in Reasi, Dr. Nanda’s appointment marks a significant achievement not only for the region but also for the Indian medical community. She belongs to a respected Dogra family and is the daughter of late Shri Madhav Lal Nanda, a noted lawyer and social activist, and Smt. Kailash Nanda, a renowned educationist. She is married to Dr. Madan Mohan Kapoor, a leading nephrologist, and is the sister of Engineer Sanjay Nanda and former MLA Ajay Nanda.

Dr. Nanda completed her MBBS from Government Medical College, Jammu, followed by postgraduate and super-specialty training in Dermatology and Venereology at PGIMER, Chandigarh. She also holds a DNB in Dermatology and has worked as a senior resident at both PGIMER and AIIMS, New Delhi.

Currently based in Kuwait, Dr. Nanda heads the Pediatric Dermatology Unit and several specialized clinics, including those for rare skin diseases and autoimmune conditions. She is a seasoned medical educator and research coordinator, with over 170 publications in international medical journals. Her academic contributions have earned her global recognition, including the ILDS Award of Appreciation in 2022 for her contributions to pediatric dermatology.

She has previously served the ISPD as Advisory Board Member (2014–2017), Board Director (2017–2021), and Secretary General (2021–2025), before being elected President. She is also a member of several international dermatology task forces and has represented India at global forums in over 20 countries.

Dr. Nanda’s elevation is seen as a proud moment for India and an inspiration for aspiring medical professionals. Her leadership is expected to enhance international collaborations and bring greater focus to pediatric dermatology in developing nations.
