CRPF personnel, civilian killed in militant attack in Sopore
A CRPF personnel and a civilian were killed in a militant attack in North Kashmir’s Sopore on Wednesday morning. Three other CRPF personnel were injured in the attack and have been shifted to a hospital. A three-year-old boy was also rescued during the attack.
The family of the civilian who was killed in the attack alleged that the security forces pulled him out of his car and shot him. A CRPF spokesman, however, said the civilian’s was killed due to the firing by militants. “A civilian vehicle which was coming from Sopore to Kupwara was caught in the firing range of millitants. An old man who was driving the vehicle stopped the car and got down from the vehicle to move away for a safe spot but got killed by firing. Later the young boy was rescued by SF who took position nearby.”
A Srinagar-based CRPF spokesperson said that the party came under attack in Sopore this morning. “Troops of G/179 CRPF along with JKP while placing NAKA were attacked by millitants at 0735 hrs which was retaliated promptly,” the spokesperson said. A senior police officer confirmed the casualties. “We lost one CRPF and one civilian in the attack. The area has been cordoned off,” he said.
